Ir. Dr Chuah Joon Huang from Department of Electrical Engineering appeared live on Malaysia Hari Ini (MHI) TV3 on 27 June 2019 in conjunction with the Durian theme. During the broadcast, he shared the DurianCam technology developed from his research.

Powered by Artificial Intelligence (A.I.), DurianCam takes an image of the bottom view of a durian fruit (Durio zibethinus) and identify the type of cultivars it belongs to. The ultimate durian-hunting companion app for durian lovers. By leveraging on the outer-shell features of the fruit of the durian species, just capture a bottom-view of a durian fruit or load it from your gallery, the app shall tell you the type of cultivar of the fruit. The currently supported cultivars are D13, D24, D175, and D197 (also known as Musang King). And lastly, it is also capable of telling you whether the object you're showing it isn't actually a durian fruit (someone is being tricky here).

Users can visit the website durianrecognition.com or download the app DurianCam to try the technology for free.
